Welcome! Dr Pepper Snapple Group (DPS) has joined forces with the Student Conservation Association (SCA)--the nation's largest non-advocacy environmental organization dedicated to developing tomorrow's conservation leaders--to conduct employee conservation service projects throughout 2012. Together, we will restore parks, trails, and other natural resources in communities where DPS employees live and operate.
Come out and join your colleagues for a day of service at the San Bernard National Wildlife Refuge. Volunteers will be building an observation deck at Scoby Lake for viewing wildlife as well as year-round and migratory birds; building a trailhead kiosk; and conducting prep work for building a new picnic area.
Training, tools, materials, insect repellant, beverages, healthy snacks and lunch will be provided. Volunteers should wear long sleeves, long pants and sturdy, closed-toe shoes; bring sunscreen and a hat. A volunteer shirt will be provided upon arrival the day of the event.

Meet at the main entrance to the Hudson Woods Unit of San Bernard NWR.
Directions: From the intersection of SH288 and SH35 (Angleton, Texas): Turn right on SH 35. Go about 3.5 miles to SH521, Turn right. Go .75 miles north to Scoby Lake Road. Turn right and then stay to the left. This will take you to the Hudson Woods Unit.
Follow the road until you see a cabin. You can park in the small parking area left of the road or along the gravel on the right.
More detailed information will be emailed to you as we get closer to the date. Please watch for your confirmation and reminder emails and be sure to add events@thesca.org to your email address book.
Important: SCA and DPS are aware of the recent upsurge in West Nile virus cases in Texas. While Brazoria County has had no reported cases--and the Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge has had no problems with mosquitos--we are taking precautions to minimize the risk of bites. Approved insect repellant will be available at the event site. We also urge volunteers to dress in long sleeves and long pants. And, for extra protection, we recommend spraying thin clothes with repellant.
